Overview
Passkeys are cryptographic key pairs generated and stored on your devices, offering a passwordless, user-friendly approach to authentication. Backed by industry leaders like Apple, Google, and Microsoft, passkeys are supported across a wide range of platforms, including:- iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks
- Android smartphones and tablets
- Web browsers like Chrome, Safari, and Edge (on Windows, macOS, and Android)
How it works
Passkeys are powered by Rhinestone’s WebAuthn Validator module. This module enables smart accounts to validate signatures generated via WebAuthn for secure, user-friendly authentication via passkeys. The module supports ERC-4337 user operations and ERC-1271 signatures. Additionally, it can facilitate a multisig setup – see here for more details regarding a multisig passkey setup.Benefits
- User-Friendly: Enables transaction authentication via passkeys, improving the UX of onchain actions.
- Secure: Leverages WebAuthn’s cryptographic strength and device-based security (e.g., biometrics).
- Flexible: Supports both single and multisig setups, fitting various use cases.
- Standardized: Aligns with ERC-7579, ERC-4337, and ERC-1271 for broad adoption.
