# ERC-7579

> Learn how ERC-7579 standardizes interoperable smart account modules.

[ERC-7579](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7579) defines minimal interfaces and behavior for modular smart accounts. A module built against the standard can work across compatible account implementations without forcing those accounts into one internal architecture.

Rhinestone helped author the standard based on production smart account patterns and earlier interoperability work. The approach keeps the interfaces small so account and module developers can continue to use different architectures.

## Module types

ERC-7579 defines four module types:

| Type | Purpose |
| - | - |
| Validator | Determines whether a transaction is valid and may execute. |
| Executor | Executes transactions on behalf of the smart account through a callback. |
| Fallback | Extends the account's fallback functionality. |
| Hook | Runs checks or custom logic before or after execution. |

A single module can implement more than one type. Hooks are an optional extension to the core standard.
